DPWC Blur 2

I don’t usually make two submissions to the DP Weekly Challenge… But then, I quite like doing things I don’t usually do so, here’s the second one this week:

There must be a defect in my nature… I don’t know how else to explain my bizarre fascination with engineering. As you may have noticed from earlier posts, I am inexplicably drawn to the science museum and today, I was overjoyed when we discovered, local to us, an old, Victorian waterworks that opens to the public once a month. The pumps at Brede Steam Giants were huge and in their entirety, far exceeded the capacity of the 50mm lens I had with me so here are some close ups of some of the beautifully engineered parts.

  1. The parts are beautiful and were probably made by hand with extremely fine tolerances. I’ll be half if not more of our apprentices today wouldn’t be able to make machinery as fine as this.
