Nik colour Efex

As I’m sure we all have, I downloaded the Nik software when Google made it free and I’m just starting to get to grips with it. I do like the detail extractor and the tonal contrast adjuster. I wonder if others are using it and which adjustments are their favourites.

  1. I downloaded it and I thought I started the process of loading it on to my computer but I can’t seem to find it…anywhere :/ I have wanted to use it, especially for the silver efex but haven’t found how to access it yet. Is it a stand-alone program or is it attached to Lightroom? Beautiful effects here, love the purple contrasting with the white trees. Looks like you are enjoying the software.

    1. Not sure if it can be opened directly from desktop. I get to it via ‘Edit in’ with Lightroom or a small floating menu box that opens with Photoshop. Hope that helps.

  2. Yes, I downloaded it too 🙂 but not had chance to have a proper play with it yet. You got a nice look with these pics, especially the trees and storm clouds, maybe I’ll have a go!

  3. I’ve had it a few years Maxine and haven’t tried everything yet! Love, love Color Efex and Silver Efex and mainly use it through PS.

  4. Glad to hear you have downloaded Nik plug-ins. I occasionaly use Colour Efex, but as you will know my main Nik plug-in is Silver Efex and it is the one plug-in I would never want to be without. For colour I use the Topaz equivalent of Colour Efex but Topaz is expensive and I find I don’t use it enough to keep upadating it or buying the additional plug-ins that keep appearing on a regular basis.

    1. Thanks for the info, Lens. I don’t think I’d have paid for it – the subscription to Adobe is as much as I want to pay out at this point. And, I can’t use those very well yet. Don’t want to throw too many irons into the fire 🙂
