Kitesurfing: Photographing an extreme sport in some extreme weather.

Wow, it’s a long time since I blogged. Bare with me; it may be a little clunky on the reading front through lack of practice – my writing, not your reading.

So, I didn’t think this shoot was going to happen on Friday. As I pulled up into the layby on the road heading east from Camber Sands, and stepped out of the car, a torrential downfall had me rushing back to shelter. Obviously, I wasn’t in a wetsuit but I did have my huge, dorky poncho/tent coat thing so, when the rain did abate, my camera and I fought our way into that and headed off for a trek over the low tide sands. Despite the uncertain start to the day, the extreme weather, and the extreme surfers, did present some beautiful, moody opportunities; freezing in shorts and up to my knees in water, I tried to do them justice. I hope you enjoy this selection.

  1. Wow! Great shots and what choppy seas for them to play in. Would have loved to see a shot of you in your shorts in the water too 🙂 What we do for the love of it.
